Tired of the traffic, screens, and repeating playlists? It’s time to hit pause and head into the hills. This weekend, we’re going off the map and into the lush wilderness of Wayanad, where every turn on the trail promises misty valleys, secret waterfalls, and views that make you forget your inbox.
Our adventure begins with a trek to the majestic Banasura Hills, one of the most underrated gems of Kerala’s Western Ghats. Think rolling green hills, wind in your hair, and clouds at eye level. But the real magic? We hike down into a surprise – the stunning Meenmutty Waterfalls waiting in the forest below.
By nightfall, we head to something special — our exclusive campsite perched on top of Ambukuthi Hill. Picture this: campfire crackling, stars overhead, the distant rustle of forest leaves, and stories shared with a tribe of strangers who quickly become friends.
Day two? It's slow, scenic, and packed with optional adventures — from ziplining and boating near the Karapuzha Dam, to simply sitting by the water and letting Wayanad do what it does best — calm you down from the inside out.
This isn’t just another weekend getaway. It’s your reset button — wild, offbeat, and full of moments you’ll carry long after Monday shows up again.

The trail to the top of Banasura hill is clearly defined for the most part. The majority of the trail winds through some very dense Shola trees. From its base, Banasura, a massive cone-shaped hill, may be seen in all its glory. The Banasura Falls diverge into a babbling stream that meanders over stones and plants. Another possible starting p
We reach Wayanad early in the morning, just as the first light peeks through the misty hills. After freshening up and a hearty local breakfast, we gear up for the main adventure of the day — the Banasura Hill Trek.
The trail to the summit is clearly marked but no less wild. We start from near the Banasura Sagar Dam, the largest earthen dam in India. As we gain altitude, the hill itself reveals its full form — a cone-shaped giant standing tall over the valleys below.
The path winds through dense Shola forests, with sections where the canopy envelopes the trail in cool shade and birdcalls echo in the silence. The first 45 minutes are steep and push your lungs to work, but the landscape — with swaying crops, lush valleys, and the scent of wet earth — makes every step worth it.
As we hike further, we pass gurgling mountain streams — perfect to refill bottles and catch a breath. The path then eases into a gradual incline through fields of knee-high grass and boulders, giving way to jaw-dropping views of Kabini’s Karamanathodu stream, the faraway hills, and meandering ridgelines.
Just when your legs start questioning the climb, the trail opens up to bare hills and the final kilometre. It's steep, exposed, and sunlit — but the panoramic views at the top will leave you speechless. The Western Ghats unfold endlessly in every direction. Clouds drift below. And the wind carries nothing but silence.
After a break at the summit, we begin our descent — carefully retracing our path down through forests and streams. But the descent has a surprise waiting: we stop by the majestic Meenmutty Falls — a 3-tiered, 1000-ft waterfall that roars from the rocks. It’s wild, unfiltered, and one of Wayanad’s most iconic natural sights.
Once we reach the base, we drive to our campsite on Ambukuthi Hilltop — a hidden gem tucked high above the surrounding valleys. As the sun begins to set, you’ll settle into camp, watch the sky change colours, and soak in the serenity.
The night brings a simple but delicious dinner, a warm bonfire (if the weather allows), and the company of strangers who are now your tribe. No network. No noise. Just stars and stories.

Wake up to the soft rustle of leaves and the golden light spilling across the hills — there’s something magical about mornings at the Ambukuthi Hilltop. After freshening up, we gather for a relaxed breakfast overlooking the valley below — a calm start to a day filled with light adventure and winding down.
Once we're packed and ready, we head out for a visit to the scenic Karapuzha Dam, one of the largest earth dams in India. The expansive reservoir, surrounded by quiet hills, offers not just views but also a chance to try out some optional adventure activities. Whether you're up for a zipline ride over the water, boating across the dam, or simply want to sit by the shore and let the calm sink in — it’s your time, your pace.
All activities here are self-sponsored, giving you the flexibility to do as much (or as little) as you like. You’ll also find a few local eateries nearby where you can grab lunch on your own — everything from Kerala-style thalis to quick bites and chai.
As the afternoon fades, we regroup and begin our return journey to Bangalore. The drive back is slower, sleepier — filled with naps, shared playlists, photo dumps, and those quiet moments when the mountains are still echoing in your head.
We aim to reach Bangalore by around 10:30 PM, depending on traffic and weather conditions — just in time to reset for the week ahead, feeling refreshed, recharged, and probably a little sun-kissed.
