If you have been to Kerala but not been to Kochi or Alleppey, you are missing out on the gems of the state. Kochi and Alleppey, better known as Alappuzha, are Kerala's coastal jewels, blending lush geography, rich histories, diverse peoples, and seafood-infused cuisines.
Nestled at the Arabian Sea's edge, Kochi is home to islands like Fort Kochi, with mangroves and a 30-mile coastline shaped by rivers of the Western Ghats. Alleppey thrives on vast backwaters, emerald canals, lagoons, paddy fields, and coconut groves, earning its "Venice of the East" tag.
When you are in Kochi, you can quite literally see history unfolding - with the town preserving its history perfectly from the times of Vasco da Gama to the Jews settling and later, the colonial seizure of the town. Alleppey, on the other hand, brings a blend of nature and man wherein the backwaters transport you to a world untouched with the modern rat-race.
