We start early from Bangalore, leaving behind the city rush as we head towards Tumkur for one of the most refreshing one day treks near Bangalore. After a quick breakfast stop, we reach our first destination — Mandaragiri Hills (Basadi Betta).
The climb here is simple yet rewarding, with around 400+ stone steps leading to the top, making it an ideal easy trek near Bangalore for beginners. What makes this place unique isn’t just the views, but its deep-rooted history. The name Basadi Betta comes from the ancient Jain temples (Basadis) located on the hill, which were once used by monks as meditation spaces. At the summit stands the striking Guru Mandir, a peacock-feather-shaped structure that beautifully blends modern architecture with spiritual symbolism.
From the top, you get wide, uninterrupted views of rocky landscapes and surrounding villages — one of those viewpoints that instantly makes the climb worth it.
After descending, we slow things down at Mydala Lake, a peaceful spot surrounded by hills. It’s the kind of place where you sit back, take a breather, click a few pictures, and just enjoy the stillness before the day continues.
We then head for a self-sponsored vegetarian lunch at a nearby restaurant, giving everyone time to recharge.
The journey continues towards Namada Chilume, a quiet forest area with a natural spring. There’s a local legend that this spring was created by Lord Rama during his exile, adding a mythological layer to the experience. Today, it’s also known for its deer park, making it a nice mix of nature and culture in one stop.
From here, we move to Devarayanadurga Hills (DD Hills), one of the most scenic trekking places near Bangalore. Unlike Mandaragiri, this part feels more like a classic hill experience, with greenery, forest patches, and winding roads leading up.
The name Devarayanadurga translates to “Fort of the Gods”, and historically, it served as a strategic hill fort under the Mysore rulers. The hills are home to ancient temples like Bhoga Narasimha and Yoga Narasimha, which continue to draw visitors for both spiritual and scenic reasons.
As you reach the top, you’re greeted with panoramic views of valleys, hills, and endless greenery — easily one of the best viewpoints near Bangalore. It’s the kind of place where you pause, take it all in, and realize how much a single day can offer.
As the day winds down, we begin our journey back to Bangalore, carrying back a mix of easy climbs, forest trails, history, and those small moments that made the trip more than just a getaway.
We reach back by evening, wrapping up a perfectly balanced one day trip and trek near Bangalore.
