Starts From
Living in Bangalore can be monotonous. It’s the same routine every day - wake up, go to the office, hit the gym, try to eat well, and sleep. So, when life offers you a chance to deviate from that routine at the weekend, make sure that you grab it.
What better way to do so than backpacking your way to the misty hills of the Western Ghats in Kodaikanal?
Sitting in the clouds on Palani Hills, Kodaikanal is where misty mornings, pine-dense forests and breathtaking viewpoints converge. Located in the Dindigul district of Tamil Nadu, it is often referred to as the ‘Princess of Hills’ and was established in 1845 as a refuge from the summer heat of the plains. Today, it is one of the most hearted destinations for backpackers and families alike.
If you are based out of Bangalore, Kodaikanal is a must-visit place for you, especially over the weekend.
Plan the Unplanned has crafted a quick break to slow you down to this slow and soothing hill station with dreaming mountain air, and iconic landscapes to get under the skin of Kodai at a relaxed, immersive pace. From forest walks to cliffside views and cosy cafes, this trip strikes a perfect balance between nature, light adventure and leisure.

Salute the morning as it ascends the misty mountains of Kodaikanal on day 2. The ghat’s scenic curves and cool mountain air set the tone.
Reach the quieter corners where our stay will be, freshen up and have a leisurely breakfast in the midst of nature. Stroll through the world-famous Pine Forests with their towering trees and dappling light, after a relaxing time, as you prepare to embark on your adventures.
We might also check out the Guna Caves (Devil’s Kitchen) (optional) – a dramatic rock formation with narrow ravines and a creepy appearance.
Then make your way to Pillar Rocks – three massive rock formations rising from the mist, offering breathtaking views.
In the evening, head towards the heart of Kodaikanal town to visit the famous Kodai Lake. In the heart of town, this is a great place for a leisurely walk, take some pics, or just chill and enjoy the mountains.
